Hi,
I am Mark and set the owl forum up for fellow owl keepers to have a safe place to talk about keeping owls. I am fairly new to the sport of owl keeping, in total I have owned two owls, a barn owl ( which through a simple mistake escaped ) and a Bengal eagle Owl. I used to frequent falconry forums, but after being reprimanded for talking owls, another member suggested an owl forum, within 5 minutes, the owl forum was born. I tried to start a centre for falconers and owlies, the idea being when you loose your owl or bird of prey you phone a number and falconers and other owl keepers get to you as soon as possible and help you look. I have postponed the centre for the time being, simply because for some reason the idea was not working.
Some may ask with what authority I give advise, being so new to the sport. My simple answer is this : The advice I give is gleaned from falconers and fellow owl keepers, some with as much as 30 years experience, every piece of advice I type is checked by at least one experienced owl keeper, by sight or by phone. Even when I relay my own experience, I have a falconer / owl keeper check it. Where are these so called owl keepers and falconers you may well ask. Living in the dark ages, without a computer, let alone broadband. The few that I speak to that do have Internet access have been put off forums because of the bitching and back stabbing that tends to be allowed to get posted. One of the falconers I frequently glean advise from is a respected falconer in Norfolk, his young Harris Hawks are highly spoken of and sought after, he has hunted Harris hawks with top falconers from around the world and breeds peregrine falcons and sparrowhawks. Another falconer has been an owl breeder for 30 years and has no less than 10 owls including European Eagle Owls, Bengal Eagle Owls, Barn Owls and Snowy owls but also 20 other birds of prey including saker falcons and red tails.
But first and foremost, I would rather not give advise on keeping owls, due to my lack of experience, however until experienced owl keepers and falconers start using the owl forum, topics need to come from somewhere. Feel free to correct my posts where you feel they are wrong, the beauty of falconry is, ask 6 falconers the same question, you will probably get 6 different answers.
I hope you enjoy your time on the owl forum, I will never allow bullying or back stabbing nor bitching on this owl forum. Whilst a forum is for discussion, it is not in my opinion for owl keepers to belittle other owl keepers.
